The Khamseh is a tribal confederation in southern Iran consisting of five tribes of Arab, Lori and Turkic origin. They are the Ainalu, the Baharlu, the Baseri, the Nafar and the Arab. The carpets woven by the Khamseh are often confused with those of the Qashai as they bear considerable similarity though the Qashqai are generally woven of a finer wool. However Khamseh pieces are often dyed in bright and clear colors and the patterns which include the motifs of animals, often chickens and other birds, vases, flowers and roundels of protection are lively and greatly admired.
